Xunantunich & River Tubing
This Classic period (300-900 AD) ceremonial center showcases large plazas ringed with pyramids. The center is composed of six major plazas surrounded by more than 25 temples and palaces. We highly recommend that you make the steep, but short, 130ft climb to the top of ”El Castillo.” This vantage point provides a breathtaking, 360 degree, panoramic view over the jungle canopy of the Macal, Mopan and Belize River valleys, as well as a vast area of the Guatemalan Peten District. Then grab your tube for a float trip downriver. Seek out parrots, birds, and the sunning iguanas along the jungle lined river. Navigate gentle rapids and paddle along wide open stretches – a great opportunity for beginners or experienced paddlers.

ATM Cave & Jungle Hike

After an exciting drive, you will trek for 45 minutes through dense Jungle in the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve and wade across three streams. Some swimming will be required and also climbing and caving activity. Actun Tunichil Muknal ”Cave of the Stone Sepulcher” is one of the most impressive caves in the Maya Lowland. The cave system consists of a series of chambers, ending in a large Cathedral where sacrificial ceremonies once took place. Here lay those individuals sacrificed to the gods of the underworld. Visitors to this cave have the opportunity to witness a living museum where the human sacrifices and artifacts can be viewed in their original context.

Green Acres Horseback Adventure

Beginner & novice riders are welcomed – our experienced wranglers and gentle horses will put you at ease. Giddy up for an amazing ride through the orange orchards, across streams, up hills and through the jungle. Cross the Sibun River head for the cocoa fields of the Hershey Company. The cocoa fruit, highly revered among the Maya, was eaten and enjoyed and the seeds traded like currency. Your guide explains how this “Food of the Gods” is cultivated.

Barton Creek Cave Canoe

Hidden within the small Mennonite Community of Barton Creek are the remnants of an ancient Mayan civilization silently waiting to be explored in the cool, dark underground caverns of the Barton Creek Cave. This Cave was a center for ritualistic activities including human sacrifices, bloodletting rituals and fertility rites. This ancient wonder can be explored only by canoe. Stretching one to two miles underground visitors drift along in their canoes and marvel at the glittering stalactites and stalagmites, some 50 feet in length; the eerie remains of human bones; centuries-old clay pots, and tiny remnants of cultural Mayan artifacts.

Caracol, a Classic Period complex, covers 30-square miles of thick, high-canopy jungle, and includes five plazas, an astronomic observatory and over 35,000 buildings which have been identified. The loftiest among them, a massive pyramid (Caana) which is capped by three temples and rises over 140 feet above the jungle floor. Caracol’s central core today, as seen by visitors, consists of three plaza groups surrounding a central acropolis and two ball courts, along with a number of smaller structures. The Visitor’s Center exhibits a number of photographs and diagrams of the site, along with artifacts, including a recovered ceremonial altar. Rio On Pools are a continuous series of pools formed by large granite boulders. Many of the pools are connected by small waterfalls. The smooth surface of the boulders make natural water slides and a great place for a swim or a hike. Rio Frio Cave and its 65-foot arched entryways leave you in awe. Openings at both ends make flashlights unnecessary for viewing the cave’s format ions during daylight hours.
