Colonial Leon & Volcanic Fields
Leon was the capital of Nicaragua for over 200 years, until it was replaced by Managua in 1851. Leon’s Cathedral is the largest religious colonial building in Central America. The remains of the immortal and internationally well known poet, Ruben Darío, are resting there. Enjoy a visit to the Museum Ruben Dario, Art Galley Ortiz-Gurdian known as one of the best private art galleries in Latin America and other attractive places. We will end our tour with a visit to the San Jacinto volcanic fields over viewing the impressive volcanic chain of Nicaragua.

In the Park you will also visit the Interpretation Centre where you will receive an explanation about the volcano activity in Nicaragua. After admiring this National Park, we will visit the archeological museum of Nindiri, a small town where you will see samples of items used by the indigenous people of this region. Then you will continue to the town of Masaya, Nicaraguan capital of folklore and handicrafts, and the richest in terms of handicrafts in Central America. The artisans of Masaya are known for making beautiful hammocks of international fame, woodworks, sculpted masks, clay ceramics and hand made embroidered blouses. In Masaya you will have the opportunity to choose between a great number of local souvenirs to take to your family and friends.

Somotos Grand Canyon
A once in a lifetime experience: drive through the high hills of the northern part of the country and you will enjoy the experience of your life seeing the Grand Canyon of Somoto a spectacular place that words and even pictures cannot fully describe; this stunning and unique gift of nature dated between 5 to 13 million of years old, considered one of the geological landscape wonders in all of Central America. After having accomplished the small walk and boat ride, the excursion continues visiting the little town of Somoto, a very well known place, famous for its corn biscuits (Rosquillas). Lunch will be served in a local restaurant before returning back to Managua.

Adventure in cerro negro volcano (Trekking)
If you do not wish to climb the volcano you can still admire yourself at being so close to the impotent volcano. In a clear day, you can appreciate the impressive volcanic chain of Marribios. After having accomplished the long walk, the excursion continues visiting the park and Cathedral of Leon’s city, the more important religious centre of Nicaragua. Lunch will be served in one of the restaurants of the zone.
