It is an old colonial city from the seventeenth century located over the oriental bank of the De la Plata River. It has a very well maintained architectural wealth. It is highly recommended to take a pedestrian ride along the old fortress used to avoid the advance of the potential enemies. Another visit should be the Royal of San Carlos, outside Colonia city, from where the Spanish troops besieged the Portuguese square fort in 1761. The old historical part of Colonia city was declared by UNESCO as World Heritage of Humanity in 1995, since it is a successful mixture of post-colonial Portuguese and Spanish styles. The particular preservation of its surroundings has enabled the usage of its streets as exterior shots in several movies. Nowadays, the city has antique colonial mansions transformed in nice hotels, keeping their original charm. At afternoon, transfer to the port of Colonia to take the ferry back to Buenos Aires. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.
